Department of Athletics adds archery and competitive dance as varsity sports

November 14, 2022

ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï is adding archery and competitive dance as sports within the Department of Athletics, Director of Athletics Jessie Biggs announced Friday. The university is currently conducting searches for both head coaching positions as these varsity programs—ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï’s 27th and 28th—will begin competition in fall 2023.

ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï’s archery program will compete within the confines of USA Archery, which manages the national Collegiate Archery Program. Currently, competition takes place between programs of all structure types (varsity, club sports and student organizations). The Collegiate Archery Program has approximately 85 programs that are registered or in the process of registering.

The archery team will practice and compete at Warrior Park, located five miles south of the main campus at 377 E. Tillman Road.

ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï’s competitive dance team will compete in its home conference, the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, joining Aquinas College, Concordia University (Michigan), Lawrence Tech, Lourdes University, Madonna University and Siena Heights University.

“We are thrilled to be adding archery and competitive dance to our list of varsity sports here at ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï and we are excited to meet the student-athletes these new opportunities bring to our university,” Biggs said. “USA Archery and its staff have been instrumental in helping us develop what we feel is going to be a successful program. Our competitive dance students will have the opportunity to perform on campus during events and they will compete in the very competitive WHAC conference as an NAIA participant.”
